Our Reality: Covid-19 and Relationships

For many, the pandemic changed the dynamics in our relationships, especially for couples who had to work from home for the first time. Social distancing restrictions kept us further away from friends and coworkers, but closer to family and partners. What does this mean for the future of love?

In a recent survey, nearly 10% of respondents said that lockdown and other COVID-19 restrictions led them to realise they wanted to end their relationship. But more than half of the respondents said they enjoyed spending more time with their partner during lockdown and want to continue to prioritise family time going forward.

With the anxiety brought on by the pandemic and the lengthy economic recovery, an overall rise in marital/relationship conflict has been observed. During the pandemic, many couples have realised their relationship is no longer working, but many have met new partners while in lockdown through online dating apps such as Hinge and Tinder. But have you heard of the app Relate?

Relate is more than just swiping--it is a revolutionary relationship app that can help single people form a partnership with someone who shares their values, and provides science-backed advice to help users strengthen their current relationship. The Related Boost interface helps give couples ideas for new activities to do together and help open up new avenues for communication.

Many couples avoid counselling or therapy due to stigma, believing media stereotypes that only unhealthy or unfit couples need to talk to a professional. But about 75% of couples who pursue therapy together state that it improved their relationship. Relate knows every couple can benefit from therapy techniques and improved communication, whether they've been together 6 months or 60 years. Going through big transitions--as many are, with Covid affecting employment and the economy worldwide--can be a prime time to pursue counselling with your partner.

And with Relate, you can do it all on your phone! What do you think of this incredible innovation? Will you and your partner give it a try?
